Each of us makes a difference...
Not only are the products we make and sell organic, they are plastic free. By buying in bulk you are minimising the miles your food is travelling and your shopping time as well as minimising packaging. And buying in bulk allows you to shop organic for less than you would spend at your local grocery store! If you can't image being able to use 5 kilos of rice in the year, get some family and friends together to share and spread your support for Mother Earth.
What does Organic mean?
Fruits and vegetables are generally grown without synthetic pesticides, artificial fertilizers, irradiation (a form of radiation used to kill bacteria), or biotechnology. Animals on organic farms eat organic feed, aren't confined 100 percent of the time (as they sometimes are on conventional farms), and are raised without antibiotics or synthetic growth hormones.
Here at Slieve Aughty Centre, we believe that organic food is better for you and the environment. Don't believe us? Here is what the experts say:
According to a 2014 study published in the British Journal of Nutrition, higher antioxidant levels in organic produce might actually enhance its organoleptic qualities — a.k.a. its aroma, taste, and even the sensation in your mouth as you're eating it. Why are the antioxidants in organic foods higher? Because without the synthetic chemical pesticides applied on conventional crops, organic plants tend to produce more phenols and polyphenols to defend against pest attacks and related injuries. In people, phenols and polyphenols can help prevent diseases triggered or promoted by oxidative damage, like coronary heart disease, stroke and certain cancers. Overall, organic crops had 18 to 69 percent higher concentrations of antioxidant compounds.
Organic farming reduces pollutants in groundwater and creates richer soil that aids plant growth while reducing erosion, according to the Organic Trade Association.
Organic means working with nature, using real ingredients, with animals free to forage and graze on land that’s home to more wildlife. Mother nature cracked it years ago – all we need to do is choose organic!!
